TCU nominated as a finalist for the national Outstanding
Corporate Citizen Award.
TCU was listed as a finalist in the Futures Category
of the Jobs, Careers, Futures Awards 2006 and attended the awards
ceremony at Parliament House in Canberra on November 2, 2006. Sponsored
by the Department of Education and Workplace Relations, the Jobs,
Careers, Futures Awards acknowledges excellence in Indigenous Employment.
Nominated for the Outstanding Corporate Citizen award TCU highlighted
the use of flexible business practices in delivering financial services
to remote communities, and the opportunities provided to community
locals in employment, on the job training and community financial
education.
TCU presents at the National Engaging Indigenous Communities
Conference 2006.
TCU attended and presented at the Engaging Indigenous
Communities Conference 2006. The presentation by Michelle Roberts
(Human Resources Manager) was titled ‘Banking in the Bush
- Building Bridges in Financial Literacy and Local Community Employment.’
In summary Michelle spoke about two projects that TCU was currently
working with that increase financial literacy and employment prospects
for the people in communities serviced by TCU, and TCU’s approach
to community empowerment.
These projects included:
- Financial Literacy Project (ANZ Partnership)
– promoting understanding of TCU's products and services,
and member ownership of TCU
- Structured Training and Employment Project
– Certificate II Financial Services. Providing indigenous
staff with training and education and seeing them gain confidence
and remain in employment.
